Item #39060

US Model 1836 Flintlock Pistol by Johnson

  • Maker: U.S. Military
  • Model: 1836
  • Caliber: .54

  • Description: NSN, .54 caliber, 8 1/2 inch barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This exceptionally handsome pistol is still in the original flint and has an overall original armory bright finish with some mild freckling along the barrel which has clear breech markings: US / JH / P. The lock plate is marked US / R. JOHNSON / MIDDN. CONN. / 1841 (the date is stamped over a second, US mistakenly added below the address) beneath the lightly tarnished brass pan, which has a dull yellow-ochre patina and there is some very minor pinprick pitting and freckling on the cock and frizzen which are still otherwise armory bright. The lock is still tight and the mechanics are fully functional while the walnut stock has an excellent original oil finish with scattered small handling marks and surface blemishes as well as crisp cartouches just behind the side plate. Two large bruises are present on either side of the top tang at the top. This is an excellent example of an original American martial flintlock pistol, and would make a fantastic addition to any collection. Antique
