U.S. Navy 1861 Plymouth Rifle Saber Bayonet
- Maker: US Military
- Model: 1861
- Description: Serial #1246. This is a Collins-made bayonet that measures 27 1/4 overall with a 22 1/2 yataghan blade having wide, unstopped, single fullers. The blade has mostly armory bright finish with specks of mild surface freckling throughout. The ricasso is maker marked on the reverse: COLLINS & CO./HARTFORD/CONN. and exhibits some contact wear from a scabbard throat on either side. The hilt has an overall dull yellow-ochre patina with scattered small impact marks and darker tarnish within the grooves along the grips. The ring has a flattened portion on one side that may interfere with the fit on the barrel (see photos) The scabbard is no longer present, but the bayomet rates very good-fine condition overall, and would make a great accompaniment to a Model 1861 Plymouth/Dahlgren rifle.
