Item #25783

German Model 1871/84 Rifle by Spandau Converted to Jaeger Rifle

  • Maker: Mauser
  • Model: 1871/84
  • Caliber: 11mm

  • Description: Serial #251, 11mm Mauser, 31 barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some very mild freckling within the grooves. This is an 1888 dated rifle with all matching numbered components that retains 80-85% of the original blue on the barrel which blends nicely into a dark plum-brown patina on the balance. The receiver has a cleaned armory bright finish with some light-moderate pinprick pitting and surface blemishes on the left side and some plum-brown mottling throughout that repeats on the bolt. The walnut stock is likewise in very good plus condition with light scattered handling marks in the added military oil finish and deeply struck, crisp cartouches. The rifle has been modified from its original infantry configuration by removing the trigger guard swivel, adding a new swivel on the belly of the butt, and removal of the stacking bar. The buttplate tang is unit marked as well: 6.R.J./4.70., (6th Reserve Jger (Battalion)., 4th Company, Rifle #70). This is a rare example of a Jaeger Gewehr 71/84 conversion in very good-near fine condition and would make a terrific addition to any collection. Antique
